AAA Virtual Distracted Driving Pledge and Phone Set Up Challenge

$0.00

During a specific time period, rally those in your school and/or community via email, websites, social media, calls, announcements, newspapers, radio, etc. to take the Distracted Driving Pledge and set up their phones to automatically block texts and calls when they are in motion in a vehicle.

  1. Determine timeframe to have the Challenge. Ten days to two weeks is usually best. It needs to have an official kick-off and ending.

  2. Contact AAA Oklahoma representative to brainstorm and consult on details and planning to make it most effective.

  3. Promote your chapter’s challenge, enlisting all to go to AAA.com/DontDriveDistracted and take the pledge. IMPORTANT: Urge them to list your full school name in the field that reads, “I’m pledging in honor of _______.” Only those who enter this field with your school name will be counted toward Oklahoma Challenge points for enlisting pledges for your chapter.

  4. Also, direct those taking the pledge to also view the instructions to set up their phones to automatically hold calls and texts while in motion in a vehicle and deliver a message to whomever is contacting them that they are driving and can’t respond but will get back to them when they stop. 5. Consider messaging during the Challenge to stress urgency in taking the pledge during the Challenge. For instance, “Only 3 days left to take the Don’t Drive Distracted Challenge . . . “ If competing against another school’s chapter, message the “score” during the competition to urge more to take the pledge and set up their phones with Do Not Disturb While Driving.

  6. When the Challenge is complete, the AAA representative will let you know of the total number who took the pledge, designating your school for points. Share the results with those who participated and via social media and other communications channels.

You will receive 100 points for hosting this event AND you will receive an additional 100 points for every 20 pledges confirmed by AAA. If you wish, enlist another chapter to compete with you to get the most pledges.
